Fact:  At the time of writing, the BSPCA has

53 individual members

63 family members

19 corporate members.

Do those numbers look low to you?  We think we can do better!  Luckily for us, simply due to the fact that you are reading this newsletter right now, it is highly likely that you may already be a paid-up member.  However, there is also the possibility that you might be sitting in a doctor’s waiting room, or perhaps your child’s school or maybe even just a friend’s house, and have picked up this piece of reading material out of curiosity.  Either way, we are talking to YOU!

The truth is: we need your support!  If you are an existing member, why not renew your membership straight away?  If you’re not currently a member, how about filling in that membership form (please ring us if you need one) and taking on a membership for yourself and your family?

Every time a new membership is taken out, the BSPCA benefits in ways you may not understand.  Not only do the fees that you pay help our society run itself from day to day, but it also goes towards our greater agenda:

  • Educate the youth of Botswana about animal welfare

  • Encourage, teach and foster good pet parenting practices in this country

  • Encouraging the government to set forth legislation on animal cruelty

  • Provide a clean, safe place for all injured/abandoned animals seeking “forever homes”

  • Promote spay and neuter programs, thereby decreasing the number of stray animals in Botswana

  • Eradicating the need to euthanize healthy and adoptable companion animals

  • Help bringing animal abusers to justice.

 Here are the facts:

A one-year individual membership costs P 100. One example of what this amount of money can do is that it can provide one vet consultation for one shelter animal.

A one-year family membership costs P 200.  Two examples of what this amount of money can do are: vaccinate one puppy; neuter one cat.

Our REAL challenge however, is getting that ever-elusive Corporate Membership from you. A Corporate Membership costs P 1,000.  Three examples of what this amount of money can do are: get 2 dogs spayed or neutered, keep our shelter vehicle on the road for 2 weeks; contribute substantially to shelter improvements and upkeep!

But it’s the numbers that count.  This is why we are asking you to consider membership.  And then ask yourself: can you find one other potential member too?  More than one?  Perhaps even your own employer, who may even consider “going corporate”?

Your annual membership will entitle you to a copy of our Quarterly Newsletter, which will keep you up to date with what is going on throughout the year, and will give useful tips on how to look after your animals.  We are also currently investigating the possibility of acquiring extra discounts around town that would be provided to paid up members.  Does your company or business have anything it can offer along this line to our loyal members?  If so, please let us know as we hope to unveil our new membership benefits scheme in 2009.  Even more helpful, though, our membership database allows us a chance to put a finger on the pulse of animal welfare supporters in Botswana, to observe and work with the trends that we see in numbers of committed people like you, who will stand up with us and push the boundaries in education, legislation, animal wellness, and cruelty prevention.  But most importantly it is your contribution that keeps us going on a day to day basis.  Please remember that we rely totally on membership fees and donations to do what we do.  Thanks to all of you!
